About EIS
EIS Objectives
Five objectives will drive MSU’s Enterprise Information Stewardship Framework, and enable the framework to support Enterprise Business Systems goals of transparency and standardization:
- Protect, maintain and secure the quality and integrity of the institution’s data.
- Promote adherence to common standards that ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Foster technological designs and implementations that support process integration.
- Provide information needed to make informed business decisions, at all levels of the University.
- Provide access to the right data by the right people at the right time.
EIS Organization
Enterprise information stewardship is a collaborative, cross-functional and University-wide effort. Key roles include:
- Data Creators and Consumers: Faculty, students and staff - including system developers, institutional researchers, and others who enter or access data for management decision making, as well as senior management and other non-technical clients who reap the benefit of those efforts. Input and feedback from creators and consumers comes from a wide range of advisory and user groups, as well as from individuals.
- Subject-Matter Information Stewards: Persons and functional units that have traditionally been stewards for data of University-wide importance. These stewards take a leading role in defining best practices, identifying and communicating regulatory and other compliance requirements, and fostering a University-wide perspective for data related to their specific subject matter expertise (HR, Research, Financial, Student, etc.) These functional data stewards will continue in these important and specialized roles, but coordinate their work through the mechanisms of the Enterprise Information Stewardship Framework. Stewards from diverse subject matter areas will participate in a cross-subject-matter Enterprise Information Stewardship Core Group Working Committee.
- Information Services and Technologies Enterprise Information Stewardship Core Group: Executive-level cross-functional technology direction-setting and oversight group.
- Enterprise Information Stewardship Office: Central group responsible for facilitating and supporting the Enterprise Information Stewardship Framework
